Woman Surprised by Unusual Cereal Box Packaging for Online Order

It’s recently taken an unexpected turn for 27-year-old mom Kath Humphreys. She had ordered clothes for her one year old daughter on Vinted, an online marketplace. When the order did arrive, it came inside a Choco Flakes cereal box. It had dungarees and cardis—and it blew her mind and made her laugh.

The accident happened while Humphreys was picking up an order from an InPost locker. But as she opened up the package, she was struck by the creative use of cereal. To add insult to injury, the box was already torn and damaged. This unique way of transporting freight piqued her interest. She emerged to social media to describe her experience and was initially shocked and amused by her newfound fame.

When I came across the cereal box, I was just blown away,” she recalled. So then for example, the clothes are great but the packaging is crazy. In just a few hours this post spread like wildfire, reaching more than 300,000 views as people joined her in outrage at the crazy packaging decision.

She opened a dialogue with the seller, who assuaged her concerns on the non-standard packaging. She noted that it was “the last thing she had available” for sending the order in the mail. Reusing packaging As one social media user stated, “Reusable is way better than recyclable.” Others sided with Humphreys, saying there was a lack of clarity about the box’s condition. One user noted, “Considering the box is ripped though, I wouldn’t be giving them five stars.”

Though she was deeply mortified about the receipt of such an unconventional delivery, the situation led to Humphreys to appreciate the humorous aspect of the circumstance. She remarked, “I don’t mind it. Rather re-use items than more plastic bags,” which reflected a growing sentiment among consumers about sustainable packaging practices.

She expressed displeasure at having received the packaging in such condition. Frustrated, she responded with a two-star buyer review. First off, the experience exposed some of the funny foibles of shopping online. More importantly, though, it raised significant dialogue surrounding the need for appropriate packaging standards across e-commerce.
