Musician and artist Elijah Blue Allman, son of Cher and late music legend Gregg Allman, recently made waves when he was photographed outside the famous Chateau Marmont in Hollywood. He seemed to be in an agitated condition. The 48 year old musician displayed erratic behavior, looking gaunt and out of it, showing up in shorts and a torn t-shirt. Eyewitnesses observed him swaying and indicating he was in distress. This increased the urgency given his continued battle with severe mental health and substance use disorders.
Allman’s struggles with addiction are not new. In a 2014 interview, he admitted to using drugs starting at the age of 11. He stated, “I started with drugs around the same time that we all did, around eleven,” reflecting on how common drug use was among his peers. Instead, he has imploded from a substance abuse issue exacerbated by his volatile relationships. His latest marriage to Marieangela King, which started in December 2013, took a turn when she filed for divorce in April 2025.
Cher, concerned for her son’s well-being, sought a sole temporary conservatorship over Allman’s finances in late 2023. In her petition, she cited his “severe mental health and substance abuse issues,” arguing that any funds distributed to him would likely be spent on drugs, jeopardizing his life. “Any funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself, and putting Elijah’s life at risk,” Cher expressed in her legal documents.
Despite these challenges, Allman’s legal team, led by lawyers Avi Levy and Steven Brumer, successfully defended him against Cher’s conservatorship request. They underscored the need to promote Allman’s independence and self-determination, and to keep courts out of personal decision-making. “The team successfully defended Elijah, resulting in Cher voluntarily dismissing her petition,” Levy and Brumer stated.
She announced her decision the next day, making it possible for everyone to begin healing and working toward reconciling their fractured family. “This outcome allows the parties to focus on healing and rebuilding their family bond, a process that began during mediation and continues today,” Levy and Brumer added.
According to his financial filings, Elijah Blue Allman makes just over $120,000 a year from the agency. Due to his addiction, he can’t take care of his finances. He has been going through a tough time these days. All of us who care about him and his future are heartbroken and terrified by his personal battle continuing.
