Tensions Flare as Democrats Disrupt Trump’s Congressional Address

Several Democrats disrupted former President Donald Trump's speech to Congress, shouting accusations of "liar" during his address. This incident, however, is not unprecedented, as previous presidential speeches have faced similar interruptions. The tumultuous session saw multiple Democratic lawmakers boycotting the event, while others protested by waving signs that read "Save Medicaid" and wore pink in a visible demonstration against the president.

As Trump attempted to continue his speech, he took the opportunity to criticize the Democrats for their overt hostility towards him. At one point, Rep. Al Green of Texas heckled former President Joe Biden during his address to Congress. The situation escalated when Green persisted in shouting over Trump, declaring, "You don’t have a mandate," referencing the recent budget resolution that narrowly passed in the House.

The disorderly conduct led Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana to intervene decisively.

“I now direct the Sergeant at Arms to restore order! Remove this gentleman from the Chamber!”

Consequently, the House sergeant-at-arms escorted Green out of the chamber. Despite the disruption, Trump continued to chastise the Democrats.

“And these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements.”

“I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud, nothing I can do.”

In response to Green's outburst, Republicans seated opposite quickly countered with chants of "USA," aiming to drown out his remarks. A Republican member retorted sharply at Green, while others demanded he "sit your a– down."

This incident is reminiscent of past disruptions, including those involving Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert three years ago. Despite his removal, Green later expressed to the White House press pool that his actions were necessary.

“It’s worth it to let people know that there are some people who are going to stand up” to Trump
