TreeHouse Foods has initiated a significant recall of over 12,000 cartons of chicken broth sold at Walmart stores due to potential spoilage concerns. On December 11, the company announced the voluntary recall of its Great Value Family Size Chicken Broth, citing possible packaging failures that could compromise the product's sterility. The affected items include 48-ounce cartons with a best-if-used-by date of March 25, 2026, and bear the UPC 007874206684.
The recall spans nine states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Initially, Walmart had stated that the recall was limited to Alabama and Arkansas but later expanded it to include all nine states. In total, 2,023 six-pack cases, equating to 12,138 individual cartons of the chicken broth, have been withdrawn from shelves.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an advisory regarding the recall, emphasizing that potential packaging failures might lead to spoilage. However, the FDA has not yet determined the risk level associated with this recall. Additionally, there have been no reported illnesses linked to the consumption of the affected chicken broth.
Walmart has advised customers who purchased the recalled product to immediately cease consumption. Consumers are urged to dispose of the chicken broth and contact Walmart for a refund. This preventive measure aims to safeguard public health and ensure customer safety.
TreeHouse Foods voluntarily initiated the recall as a precautionary measure to address potential health risks associated with compromised product sterility. The company is committed to addressing any concerns and ensuring the safety of its products in alignment with regulatory standards.
