A Gold Coast woman was hit with a rude surprise after she sunk her teeth into a well-known Cadbury chocolate Easter bunny. So she made the choice to show her traumatic experience to the world on TikTok. Chy purchased multiple chocolate eggs, building up a stockpile in the weeks preceding Easter. When she found something alarming inside, she was horrified and sickened.
Chy just had no idea where she purchased the chocolate bunny. Halfway through reading it, she was stunned to learn a shocking and surprising secret! What began as an innocent seasonal dessert became a tormented waking nightmare. Then she personally encountered something alarming that triggered her flight response.
So I sat down, I opened up the bunny, and I began to eat the ears. I was about to take another bite and I felt this thing that I thought was hair,” she continued. The repulsion got worse when she noticed what appeared to be “webs.” In no time at all, she had discovered the terrible truth lurking beneath the suspiciously empty chocolate shell.
Distressing Find
In her TikTok, (@chyannnn3), Chy broke down some of the most upsetting things she saw. “There was a live bug, worm, meal moth moving around, dead ones, and what looked like droppings from them,” she described. Viewing it was such an emotional assault, it was more than my body could bear.
I turned on my video and flash in the lounge to look, and thought I saw hair. Instantly, I wanted to vomit and started crying as I have huuuuge issues with foods already,” she stated. After her initial discovery, Chy vomited for the next half hour and was largely motivated to keep going out of anxiety and repulsion.
Cadbury has now responded to her allegations, saying they do not tolerate such incidents. After such an experience, Chy would go on to feel that hers was not the only instance. She admitted that she’s not the only one to tell you this story about empty chocolate bunnies.
Consumer Concerns
Chy shared her passion about food safety and quality control when it comes to delicious chocolate. I really just hope that it raises awareness and honestly, considering the price of chocolate and the price of everything in general these days, consumers shouldn’t need to experience this,” she said.
After reaching out to Cadbury on social media, Chy was offered a $30 gift card as compensation. She concluded that the amount was excessive and unreasonable. So, she asked for more information about what the company is doing to stop these kinds of incidents from happening. They did give me a $30 gift card,” she said, though she later responded that she doesn’t think a mere $30 is sufficient and requested more information about how they plan to ensure this does not occur.
While Cadbury recognized Chy’s heartbreaking experience, they mentioned that their consumer care team reached out and provided assistance on April 22. A representative for the company pointed to the firm’s gold-standard certification in high-quality building safety protocols in manufacturing. They understood the challenges of upstream efforts to control products once they exit the manufacturing facilities.
“Our investigation found this was an isolated incident within the product batch. We communicated this information to the consumer and expressed our apologies for their experience,” – Cadbury spokesperson.
A Call for Caution
Kris Chy, a consumer clown, encouraged his fellow chocoholics to be careful while indulging in the sweet Easter pleasures. She suggested opening hollow eggs or bunnies to check them out before eating. Her experience is a cautionary tale of the things that can still go wrong — even with trusted household names.
