Shaver Hall Set to Revitalize Former Lord & Taylor Building in NYC

Shaver Hall is home to an amazing new food hall! More than a decade in the making, it is preparing to welcome visitors at 424 5th Ave, New York, NY 10018. This bustling farm-to-table public space has a huge 35,000 sq ft footprint! It will replace the historic flagship site of the former Lord & Taylor department store. The new space — named Dorothy’s Food Hall — is a tribute to Dorothy Shaver, the department store chain’s pioneering president from 1945 until her death in 1959. It aims to restore the common life of the city to the 1896 historic structure after six years of quiet.

Shaver Hall will feature an incredible lineup of 11 handpicked food vendors. Each stands as a testimony to the wonderful and varied culinary landscape that Miami offers to all palate types. Among the highlights is the first omakase restaurant by Michelin-starred chef BK Park, known for almost transcendental dining experiences. The food hall will be home to the city’s first revolving belt concept. From fig jam to peppercorns, this will open up a new world of pairings, helping patrons experience the best of the cheese world in an exciting new format.

The anchor of the establishment will be two full-scale restaurants. One of them is Tallow Steakhouse, created as an attraction for carnivores. With this addition, the multi-dimensional dining experience promised by Shaver Hall just became even more exciting!

Located on the west side of Fifth Avenue between West 38th and 39th streets, Shaver Hall emerges as a beacon of culinary creativity in a city that has seen several food hall closures recently, including UrbanSpace at Union Square. The Food Hall Co. is meeting these challenges head-on. Looking ahead, they are hopeful that their Shaver Hall project could have a far-reaching impact.

“Shaver Hall is intentionally different. It’s not a collection of leases, but a curated culinary journey paired with immersive programming.” – Food Hall Co. representative

This innovative approach aims to create “disruptive entertainment and dining concepts at the heartbeat of their local communities,” aligning with modern consumer trends that favor unique and interactive dining experiences.
