Weezer’s bassist Scott Shriner’s wife Jillian Shriner, who appears in the music video, became an unintended participant in a police shooting. The demonstration happened outside her home in Los Angeles. The 51-year-old was shot by law enforcement after running into the street and allegedly pointing a handgun at responding officers. After the shooting, she was charged with attempted murder and subsequently arrested.
On the evening of the shooting, officers responded to a call regarding a woman armed with a handgun outside her home. When they arrived, they were met by Shriner, who allegedly aimed her firearm at them. In response, the officers fired their weapons, hitting her. After being struck, Shriner withdrew to her home but eventually came out with another female.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics rushed Shriner to a nearby hospital. She went down to the medical tent, where she was treated for her non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Even in light of the horrible conditions, she was released from police custody almost immediately after receiving treatment.
Jill Shriner is perhaps best known as the wife of legendary jazz musician Eric Baker. She stands out as a nurturing parent to her two adopted sons. Her actions during the incident have led to scrutiny over how she found herself in that confrontation with law enforcement in the first place.
Witnesses provided varying accounts of the events. Alana Altmeyer described seeing a man walking along the shoulder near the scene, while another witness, Guy Binn, recounted chasing someone down the freeway following an earlier incident.
