Paralympic Archer, Dedicated Father: A Life Led by Example

Born without arms, a remarkable archer defied the odds by qualifying for the London 2012 Paralympic Games in his first attempt. His journey, marked by determination and resilience, has led him to train for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Despite numerous physical challenges, he has participated in three Paralympic Games, showcasing his unwavering spirit.

The athlete's life extends beyond sports; he is a dedicated father to three sons, aged 18, 17, and 12. With nearly two decades of parenting experience, he emphasizes the importance of leading by example. He firmly believes that children observe and learn from their parents' actions as much as their words.

"They look up to you even when you're not talking, so I hope they take that whole 'I can do anything' attitude."

His journey to the Paralympics wasn't easy. Initially told that he would never make it, he proved his critics wrong by achieving qualification on his first try. His silver medal from the 2012 Paralympic Games stands testament to his athletic prowess, yet he cherishes the moments spent with his children even more.

Living in a hands-free house without modifications for his disability, he has embraced his unique way of life. He learned to use a bow and arrow with his feet as a child, developing a strong sense of determination and perseverance along the way. Despite his achievements in sports, he values the experience of being a parent over any athletic success.

"I was paranoid about all these things and it wasn't until the baby was older that I realized that the baby doesn't care, it just wants to be loved. It's all the baby wants. And all the fear is just in the parents, so there's no point in having it."

Recalling his early parenting days, he humorously advises new parents with practical wisdom.

"Close your mouth when you're changing a baby's diaper and keep your mouth closed."

As he prepares for yet another Paralympic Games, this archer's story remains one of perseverance and inspiration. His dual roles as an athlete and father highlight the importance of resilience and love in overcoming life's challenges.
