A woman alleged she discovered a dead rat in her salad, producing a firestorm of social media exasperation. She had just begun eating her katsu don set when she was struck. This opened them up to intense criticism and an inundation of negative reviews on the Internet.
Daniel Kim, the woman’s husband, was the one who uncovered this alarming find. It occurred immediately after she ate half of her food. “My wife’s salad had a rat in it. Absolutely disgusting,” he stated in a Google review detailing the experience. The incident prompted his wife’s friend, known as JH, to express her disgust in a separate one-star review, saying she did not “even think I should be giving a star considering what happened today.”
JH described the unsettling moment, stating, “My pregnant friend and I were having their lunch set today and in her small salad was a disgusting feral dead rat that was underneath the salad.” Even with this change, the announcement still caused uproar from Museum patrons and observers.
The incident, Tatsuya West Ryde owner said he was sorry and assured that an investigation has been opened. The owner stated, “An incident did occur, and the cause is currently under investigation.” They were honest in explaining that the problem originated from a received salad bar. They are currently working through this very process with their supplier and local food authority.
Tatsuya West Ryde has since issued an apology for the emotional trauma caused by the incident. “We sincerely apologize for this incident. The owner of the restaurant said, ‘We’ve addressed the incident that took place here. We’re taking other steps to make sure this never happens again. Furthermore, they emphasized that “Google reviews are based on personal opinions, not verified facts,” aiming to mitigate some of the negative fallout from the allegations.

Local stations including 9 News have covered the story and even interviewed Tatsuya West Ryde’s owner on the pandemic-related drama. Screenshots from video of the incident have been widely shared across social media, as well as second-hand reports explaining customer interactions and restaurant rebuttals.
