Nick Moran, notable actor in “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and the “Harry Potter” film series, sustained a career-ending, life-altering spinal cord injury. We immediately rushed him to a hospital where he received emergency care. His spinal cord injury was complicated enough that he needed to have surgery right away.
Moran would later have emergency spinal surgery to fuse vertebrae and repair the injury that he had acquired. Through the operation, surgeons extracted four of his neck bones, substituting them with artificial bones. This elaborate procedure was meant to decompress the mounting pressure on his spinal cord. It was important because that pressure was endangering his ability to walk and talk.
According to his friend and family—and anyone who’s been following along with his recovery—the surgery was a success. In doing so, they’ve recognized that there are no quick fixes, and the road back to full recovery is likely to be long and rocky.
In the days before his hospitalization, Moran had been suffering from worsening neck pain. His girlfriend had begged him to go to the doctor, worried about how sick he was. At first, Moran ignored her counsel, choosing to manage the discomfort with at-home remedies.
“No I’ll put some deep heat on it,” – Nick Moran
His condition came to a head when he could no longer keep the pain at bay, requiring emergency medical attention. Terry Stone, a close friend of Moran’s, has been providing updates about the actor’s condition throughout this ordeal.
“You’ve got to get it checked out,” – Terry Stone
Stone was careful to note the thoroughness of their surgery. He remarked on the high-risk nature of the procedure as many key nerves are found close around the neck and spine.
“It was micro surgery and because there’s so many nerves around the neck and spine this made the operation tricky with those awful chances of not being able to speak or walk again,” – Terry Stone
While Nick Moran continues to heal, his family and friends continue to pray that things will turn out well. His friends and family have rallied around him as he continues to fight for his life. They’re asking for everyone to redouble their encouragements as he starts this long road to recovery.
