Meghan Markle’s New Netflix Show Struggles to Find Its Flavor

Meghan Markle's latest venture, a Netflix series titled "With Love, Meghan," has drawn attention for its lackluster execution. Despite Markle's role as the executive producer, the show has been criticized for its flat and basic tone, reminiscent of a Pinterest board from a decade ago. The series, which features Markle hosting and cooking, lacks the depth and substance expected from such a high-profile project.

The show showcases Markle's on-screen presence, characterized by her signature flat whisper, as she navigates various activities. In one notable episode, she attempts to cook Korean fried chicken alongside chef Roy Choi. Markle candidly admits her culinary skills are elementary, confessing, "I’m a basic cook who microwaves burritos." Her self-deprecating humor, however, does little to elevate the overall appeal of the series.

Guests on the show include notable personalities such as actress Mindy Kaling and Markle's makeup artist friend Daniel Martin. Kaling expresses surprise at Markle's choice of attire, inexpensive Zara trousers, while Martin voices skepticism about the show's authenticity, stating, "I feel like this is all fake." These interactions add a layer of intrigue but do not compensate for the show's lack of substance.

Markle offers glimpses into her past, revealing she was once a Girl Scout who sold a significant number of cookies. The show even features a nostalgic photograph of Markle during her Girl Scout days. Despite these personal touches, the narrative often feels repetitive, particularly with Markle's frequent use of the word "joy."

In another segment, viewers witness Markle's playful side when she shares a light-hearted quip:

"My bacon brings all the boys to the yard," – Meghan Markle

Such moments aim to add charm but fall short without deeper context or exploration.

The series has also been critiqued for its promotional nature. References to Markle's royal title and her substantial Netflix deal are frequent, suggesting an underlying commercial agenda. This emphasis detracts from the potential authenticity and warmth that viewers might expect from a personal project.
