Massive Taquito Recall Urged by USDA: Check Your Freezers

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a significant recall involving 24,870 pounds of Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos. These products were distributed to select Aldi stores across 30 states and the District of Columbia. The recall, initiated by Bestway Sandwiches, comes after reports of potential metal contamination, including a dental injury and a piece of metal found in the product.

The affected taquitos, packaged in 20-ounce boxes, come with best-by dates of July 3, 2025, and September 25, 2025. They carry the UPC code 4061459337471. Although these products have been removed from store shelves, they may still be present in consumers' freezers. FSIS has strongly urged consumers to dispose of or return these taquitos for a refund.

This recall was spurred by two consumer complaints received by FSIS. One customer reported a dental injury linked to the taquitos, while another found a piece of metal in the product. In response to these incidents, Bestway Sandwiches has voluntarily recalled certain packages to prevent further consumer risk.

Consumers who purchased the taquitos from Aldi stores in states including Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, and many others, as well as the District of Columbia, are advised to take immediate action. FSIS emphasizes the importance of checking freezers to ensure that none of the recalled products remain.

The FSIS announcement underscores the critical nature of this recall due to potential health hazards associated with metal contamination. Customers are encouraged not to consume the taquitos and instead return them to the store where they were purchased or dispose of them safely.

The affected products are no longer available for purchase, but vigilance is necessary for those who may have stocked their freezers with these taquitos before the recall was announced. The FSIS continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure consumer safety.
