Details of the Recall
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) quickly classified the recall as Class III—the lowest classification. This classification means it is the least severe risk level for this type of product recall. Though Listeria is a relatively rare foodborne pathogen, its impacts on health are extremely serious. This is particularly indicative in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, the elderly, and immunocompromised persons.
The recall was based on production lot after one sample of the celery tested positive for Listeria. Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. acted quickly and responsibly to protect consumers after learning of the positive test result. The company says it’s been in close contact with the FDA. They’re planning large enough that any public health concern is anticipated and addressed with a serious plan.
