Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, a renowned orthopedic surgeon, faces accusations of insurance fraud in a lawsuit filed by American Transit on December 17, 2024. The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Hostin engaged in fraudulent billing practices and received "kickbacks" for surgeries. American Transit, an insurance provider for taxi companies, Uber, and Lyft drivers, has a history of filing contentious claims and is currently under scrutiny by New York State authorities. Sunny Hostin, Dr. Hostin’s wife and a public figure, has vehemently defended her husband, labeling the lawsuit as "frivolous" and accusing the company of harassment.
The lawsuit names Dr. Hostin among 200 defendants, alleging involvement in fraudulent activities against the insurance firm. However, American Transit itself has faced legal challenges, including a lawsuit from Uber Technologies. Sunny Hostin claims the company is attempting to avoid paying for legitimate medical and surgical procedures for its insured clients. She further suggests that American Transit is using her public status to wage a media smear campaign against her family, which she believes is an attempt to deflect from the company's financial troubles.
To counter these allegations, the Hostins have enlisted the services of prominent attorney Mark Geragos, who has issued a stern warning to American Transit. Geragos sent a letter demanding the case be withdrawn and an apology issued to the Hostin family, threatening a $5 million counter lawsuit if the demands are not met. Sunny Hostin emphasized the potential increase in damages due to the reputational harm caused by the lawsuit.

American Transit, represented by attorney William Natbony, has denied any improper conduct and stands by the allegations made in the lawsuit.
