Kendamil Baby Formula Shortage: What Parents Need to Know

The recent shortage of Kendamil baby formula has left many parents struggling to find the product they rely on for their infants. This situation stems from a surge in demand exacerbated by logistical challenges, including a port strike that has delayed shipments. While the current scarcity is concerning, experts believe that it is a temporary issue, with availability expected to return to normal within a few weeks.

The Kendamil Classic formula is anticipated to be back on shelves by early November. In the meantime, shipments have continued to leave European ports each week. However, the impact of the port strike has created a significant backlog of containers, which is slowing down the replenishment process. Will McMahon, a spokesperson for Kendamil, noted that despite the strike's conclusion, the backlog remains a critical challenge.

Parents have expressed frustration over their inability to find Kendamil formula both in stores and online. Some have reported complete unavailability of the product, prompting them to seek alternative solutions. The shortage has led many parents to turn to online communities, such as What to Expect's Community, to share experiences and gather advice.

“The port strike has contributed to the delays in getting products on shelves, and even though the strike has ended, there’s still a significant backlog of containers that are slowing down the replenishment process,” – Will McMahon.

To assist parents during this challenging time, Kendamil's customer support team is available to recommend alternative formulas based on individual children's needs and family budgets. Switching to a different formula can sometimes cause side effects such as increased gas and spit-up, so it is advisable for parents to consult with their child's pediatrician before making any changes.

“If parents cannot find the formula their baby is used to, the safest option is to look for a similar alternative, commercially available formula,” – Whitney Casares.

In addition to Kendamil Classic, the Kendamil Goat formula is expected to be back in stock next week, followed by the Kendamil Organic formula the week after. McMahon reassured parents about ongoing efforts to address the shortage.

“We know how stressful it can be for parents when they can’t find the formula they rely on, and we’re working tirelessly to resolve this,” – Will McMahon.

Kendamil has taken steps to mitigate the impact of the shortage by re-routing shipments through alternative ports across North America. This process was initiated even before the port strike occurred. However, it has not been without its challenges.

“However, these alternative routes are also facing delays,” – Will McMahon.

Despite the distressing circumstances surrounding formula shortages, experts like Casares offer words of encouragement.

“Though it can be scary to navigate a formula shortage, take heart,” – Whitney Casares.

She emphasizes that formula shortages are often temporary and highlights the variety of options available in the market. This gives parents some reassurance as they navigate their choices during this difficult period.

“We are pleased to say that shipments are now finally starting to clear customs," – Will McMahon.
