Jordon Hudson, girlfriend of famed NFL head coach Bill Belichick, has been trending for the past few days. She made a surprise cameo during a recent episode of “CBS Sunday Mornings.” The 24-year-old was publicly raked over the coals for daring to interrupt the great Belichick. She angrily interrupted us, “We’re not discussing this.” This moment occurred while Hudson was accompanying Belichick to promote his new book, “The Art of Winning: Lessons From My Life in Football.”
While on CBS This Morning to promote the book, journalist Tony Dokoupil interviewed Hudson and asked her how she and Belichick first connected. Before Belichick could answer, Hudson jumped in himself to get the discussion headed back towards the non-personal. According to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, this stoppage was not a one-time occurrence. He said Hudson’s outburst happened “after this had been going on multiple times,” implying that their debate had gone off track multiple times.
Belichick defended Hudson amid the online backlash, stating that her intention was to “reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion.” To his astonishment, completely tangential issues would start to arise during these promotional appearances. He’d already emphatically communicated that he wanted the interview to be all about his new book.
“I agreed to speak with ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ to promote my new book, ‘The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football.’ Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book.” – Bill Belichick
Despite Belichick’s defense, the situation escalated when Jennifer Schmitt, Belichick’s daughter-in-law, criticized Hudson’s behavior. Schmitt was clear that publicists should be held to a higher standard. For that, he dined out on Hudson’s unprofessional, childish behavior for blowing up and “storming off set.”
“Publicists act in a professional manner and don’t ‘storm’ off set delaying an interview,” – Jennifer Schmitt
Many have echoed Schmitt’s sentiments online, arguing that Hudson’s interruptions were disruptive and uncalled for. Though she faced significant criticism, Hudson didn’t seem to let that get to her. She has been a strong advocate for her partner’s work on social media. She posted about his book release and continued to shower the world with Instagram magic.
Hudson is now trying to sail through a stormy backlash against her unilateral action. Although the public discourse is finally shifting, it will undoubtedly be overshadowed by her enabling role during the book tour for Belichick’s opus.
