Jogger Advocates for Safety by Open Carrying Firearm During Workouts

Mikaela Dieppa, a mother-of-one from South Carolina, is opening up attitudes toward personal safety when it comes to women exercising. In a recent TikTok video that has garnered over 4.2 million views, she showcased her gun holster as she jogged, urging other women to consider similar safety measures.

In Dieppa’s viral TikTok video, she jogs assertively while carrying a gun in plain sight. She’s wearing the gun holster she ordered off of Amazon. Her activewear consists of Lululemon shorts and sports bra, with her favorite running shoes from Hoka. This pairing not only underscores her commitment to fitness but underscores her commitment to personal security.

As Dieppa explained in the video, leering men usually stop being leering men as soon as they realize she has a gun. She shared her experience on why it is important to prioritize precautions when exercising outdoors.

“It’s not that I’m scared or paranoid, it’s a fact that women get assaulted in broad daylight all the time, even when taking precautions.” – Mikaela Dieppa

Dieppa inspires women to take charge of their own safety. She argues that while it may not seem probable that you would ever need a gun while out for a jog, “the odds aren’t zero.” This claim is indicative of her understanding that knowledge and foresight are more important than ever in our modern world.

Her decision to begin openly carrying her weapon has already sparked a backlash on social media. Many viewers have praised Dieppa’s no-mercy approach to self-defense. At the same time, gun violence prevention advocates are concerned about the message behind open carrying in public spaces. One defender of Dieppa’s decision stated,

“Everybody should open carry…. I think everybody should have a gun on them in public.”

Another proponent echoed similar sentiments with the remark,

“Don’t start nothing, there won’t be nothing.”
