Harrison Ford, the iconic actor known for his roles in films such as "Indiana Jones" and "Star Wars," has been diagnosed with shingles at the age of 83. This diagnosis led to his decision to step down as a presenter at the 2025 Oscars. The Mayo Clinic describes shingles as "a viral infection that causes a painful rash," although it is not considered life-threatening.
Ford was originally scheduled to present at the prestigious awards ceremony alongside other celebrities. However, after receiving his diagnosis on Friday, he withdrew from his presenting duties on Saturday morning. His last public appearance was at the 2025 SAG Awards in Los Angeles on February 23, where he appeared to be in good health.
Despite this recent health issue, Ford maintains that he is in good physical condition. In an interview with People, he mentioned that he was handling the demands of his profession well.
"I think the demands are not really as daunting as they look," – Harrison Ford
Adding to Ford's stress was a recent personal crisis when his estate was threatened by the Palisades fire in January. During this time, he was photographed riding in the back of a police car as officers assisted him in checking on his property. Remarkably, he was seen sipping on an iced beverage without any protective gear, underscoring his resilience.
Furthermore, Ford recently discussed filming Season 2 of the series "1923," which requires him to be on horseback. Despite the challenges posed by his diagnosis, he remains committed to continuing his work.
