Gal Gadot, the well-known Israeli actress, has recently made herself controversial with her pro-Israeli remarks. Now, as a consequence of that, she’s under even more heightened security. Things got even worse when Disney supposedly beefed up security details around Gadot. This step came after the death threats she and her family endured because of her opposition to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The actress faced significant backlash during her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on March 18, where protestors interrupted the event, prompting further reactions.
The scandal was first sparked when Gadot took to social media to announce her support for Israel. Her Instagram post that announced her closer alignment with Israel received 8.9 million views in less than 2 days. It drew fire for what some claimed was a troubling combination between her political advocacy and campaign ads for her Disney movie.
Co-star Rachel Zegler fueled the move with her inflammatory support of Palestine while promoting the duo’s live-action musical, fueld. This schism of perceptions has only stoked more public debate and outrage over the film and its leading actors. Zegler was instrumental in the first “Snow White” promo. Her campaigning boosted the video to gain an astonishing 120 million views in the first day alone on X in August 2024.
Undeterred by the backlash and threats, Gadot is doubling down on her position. She expressed her shock at the level of hate she received, stating, "On October 7th, when people were abducted from their homes, from their beds, men, women, children, elderly, Holocaust survivors, were going through the horrors of what happened that day, I could not be silent." Gadot bravely stood by her choice to speak out. She focused on the urgent, present need to oppose the ugliest forms of terror.
Disney did not take the criticism and death threats lying down. They have hired dozens of new security guards to guarantee Gadot’s well-being. The actress admitted that it’s hard to speak in a space like social media where hate and lies run rampant.
"There is a challenge for people to speak on social media because there is so much hate going on and so many bots and so many angry people that are looking for a cause," Gadot stated.
