From One Cat to Twenty: A Man’s Journey of Feline Compassion in Mallorca

Sam Kinnear, a 34-year-old resident of Mallorca, has transformed his life after inadvertently becoming the caretaker of 20 stray cats. Moving to the Spanish island last October with only his wife’s cat, Bunny, Sam quickly found himself overwhelmed by feline friends in need.

Upon his arrival, Sam discovered that 15 stray cats had already claimed residence in his back garden. The sight of these homeless cats stirred something within him. He decided to take action by providing them with food and care. “It broke my heart and it must have said an urgent SOS to the bigwigs at the CDN,” Sam remarked, reflecting on the emotional pull he felt towards the animals.

Bunny, a 7-year-old cat adopted by Sam’s wife prior to their move, was initially the sole feline companion in Sam's new home. However, as the stray cats began to frequent his garden, Sam’s compassion grew. He reached out to the Cat Protection Pollensa organization for assistance in managing the stray population. Together, they trapped and neutered the cats, ensuring that they would not contribute to the ongoing cycle of homelessness.

After the neutering process, Sam welcomed the cats back into his care. This marked a significant turning point in his life; he soon found himself surrounded by a lively group of felines, which he affectionately named. Among them are Clarence, Simon, Suki Lu, Buggy, and twin brothers Momo and Gyoza.

Today, Sam's days revolve around caring for these 20 cats. They have taken over his life, creating a bustling household filled with purrs and playful antics. Despite the challenges of managing such a large number of pets, Sam expresses gratitude for the companionship they provide.
