Elijah Blue Allman, the son of music legends Cher and Gregg Allman, is doing awful. Early last month, his wife, Marieangela King, filed for divorce again—just over a year after the couple jointly agreed to separate without divorcing. The announcement comes after an especially chaotic period for Allman. In July, his parents’ divorce was finalized, and Cher has spent the past two years—as his parent—attempting to establish a conservatorship over her son’s estate.
Marieangela King filed for divorce after a short-lived reconciliation that came on the heels of the couple’s first separation. Though they had previously reconciled from their split, King has since made the agreement to legally end her union official.
In January 2024, her son Elijah Blue Allman petitioned the court to end his mother’s divorce from King. The judge granted his request in February 2024. The judge’s ruling, which was issued “without prejudice,” leaves him the option to re-file for divorce at a later time. This unusual legal maneuver comes at a time that speaks to the fraught, complicated nature of the pair’s relationship — and the problems they’ve worked through.

In December 2023, Cher petitioned to appoint herself conservator of her senatorial son’s estate. She raised troubling allegations about Elijah Blue Allman’s alleged drug use and difficulty controlling his money. As a result, a judge denied her request for a temporary emergency conservatorship. This is her second failed effort to receive authority over her son’s affairs.
In spite of these disappointments, King remained hopeful and optimistic about their future. She added, “I’m glad we’re still best friends, and Elijah will always be in my heart.” Her remarks express an understandable wish to stay on friendly terms even if their marriage is no more.
Sadly, Elijah Blue Allman and Marieangela King are both going through difficult personal circumstances right now. As the situation has evolved, their plight has become more and more apparent. As King has said, she’s looking to “turn the page to this next chapter.” Of course, that implies that she would intend to continue on her own without a partner.
The public divorce filing adds a new twist to the continuing saga of the Allman family. Their dynamics remain under close public scrutiny.
