Drunk Elephant, a popular skincare brand particularly favored by teens, has voluntarily recalled certain batches of three products following an "ingredient mix-up." The recall includes the company's 9 Jelly Cleanser, Protini Polypeptide Cream, and Lala Retro Whipped Cream. Concerns arose after it was discovered that specific batches of these products contained unlisted ingredients, potentially leading to adverse skin reactions.
The affected batches were found to have additional levels of the preservative Microkill COS, which was not initially listed in the product's ingredient list. Furthermore, some batches of Protini Polypeptide Creams were found to contain the surfactant Mirataine CBS, an ingredient also missing from the list. In the case of the recalled Lala Retro Whipped Creams, a preservative was absent, leading to the presence of yeast, including Candida parapsilosis (C. parapsilosis). Additionally, some products contained bacteria closely related to Klebsiella and Enterobacter.
Preservatives play a crucial role in cosmetics by preventing the growth of harmful mold or bacteria and extending a product's shelf life. Drunk Elephant assures consumers that the risk of infection or irritation is low. However, they advise individuals experiencing prolonged skin irritation to consult a healthcare provider or dermatologist for further guidance.
Customers who have purchased any of the affected products will be offered a full refund and replacement. To initiate this process, individuals should fill out the refund form available on Drunk Elephant's website. It is pertinent to note that while the affected products were found inside cartons of O-Bloos Rosi Drops, the drops themselves remain unaffected by this recall.
