The culinary world is grieving the loss of esteemed chef Margarita Forés, who passed away at the age of 65. Forés was found unresponsive in her hotel room in Hong Kong after missing a scheduled lunch meeting. Originally from the Philippines, she was renowned for her dedication to promoting Filipino cuisine, as well as introducing authentic Italian dishes to her homeland.
Margarita Forés' career in the food industry spanned over three decades. Her journey into the world of Italian cooking began in New York, where she developed a profound passion for the cuisine. She further honed her skills and immersed herself in the culture and craft of Italian cooking during her time in Italy. This passion translated into a successful career, earning her the title of Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2016.
Forés was not only a celebrated chef but also a trailblazer in the culinary business. She founded Cibo, a popular Italian restaurant chain boasting over 20 locations across the Philippines. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to open other dining establishments, including Lusso, Grace Park, and Loggia. Beyond restaurants, she expanded her ventures to include a catering business, a floral shop, and a culinary school.
Her contributions to the culinary arts were recognized globally. Margarita Forés once graced the cover of Tatler Asia alongside her son, showcasing her life's work and achievements. Despite her successes, she battled and overcame thyroid cancer twice, illustrating her resilience and determination.
In response to her sudden passing, Amando Forés, her son, stated:
