A recent survey has shed light on the surprising connection between home cleanliness and romantic attraction. Conducted with 1,000 participants across the United States, the study reveals that a significant majority of Americans place high importance on a tidy living space when it comes to their relationships.
According to the survey, 66.7% of respondents currently live with a partner, while 33.3% have experience living with one. The findings show that nearly three in ten respondents (29.3%) assess potential mates based on the cleanliness of their homes as depicted in dating profiles. Impressively, over 75% of participants indicated they would decline moving in with someone if their residence was not spotless.
The survey also highlights the impact of household chores on intimacy. Over half (50%) of the respondents stated that performing tasks like doing the dishes could trigger a night of passion. Conversely, 5% admitted to ending a relationship due to an unkempt living environment. This suggests that cleanliness, or lack thereof, can be a critical factor in both attraction and relationship stability.
Additionally, four-fifths (80%) of those surveyed expressed that a home’s smell significantly influences their perception of a partner. Bad odors are deemed a considerable turn-off, further emphasizing the importance of cleanliness in romantic relationships. More than half of the participants reported feeling turned on when their partner engages in household chores.
Homeaglow, the organization behind the survey, provided insights into the findings. A spokesperson noted that maintaining a clean home reflects responsibility and organization, qualities that are attractive in a partner.
“Having a clean house and being house proud is a great trait to have in a relationship. It tells the other person that you are responsible and organized and care for yourself and your belongings,” – Homeaglow spokesperson
The spokesperson elaborated on how cleanliness impacts dating. “During dating, a clean and tidy home gives an overall impression that you are clean and like a clean, tidy house and appearance. If you like a clean house, you will likely be a clean person with hygiene,” they stated.
Furthermore, they emphasized the psychological benefits of cleanliness. “It also helps present an image to a partner or potential partner that they don’t even have to try to help and organize your life; you are already in control of that area, which is a huge turn-on for a partner,” they explained.
The survey findings indicate that clutter can have detrimental effects on intimacy as well. The spokesperson warned, “When it comes to being intimate in the bedroom, clutter and poor cleanliness can be a huge turn-off. It’s harder to switch off your mind and be in the mood for intimacy when things are falling on top of you or when there are dirty sheets.”
