Chelsea Handler, renowned comedian and television host, recently shared details about her unrequited affection for former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. During a candid segment on ABC's "The View," Handler revealed that she had a crush on Cuomo, expressing her feelings openly during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite her bold declaration, Cuomo did not pursue a relationship, leaving Handler feeling "ghosted."
Andrew Cuomo, who served as the governor of New York, gained widespread acclaim for his daily press briefings during the pandemic in 2020. His leadership during this period brought him into the national spotlight. However, by the end of 2020, Cuomo faced multiple allegations of sexual harassment, which significantly tarnished his public image. An investigation conducted by the Justice Department found that Cuomo had engaged in "unwelcome, non-consensual sexual contact; ogling; unwelcome sexual comments; gender-based nicknames; comments on their physical appearances; and/or preferential treatment based on their physical appearances," ultimately leading to his resignation in August 2021.
Handler's attraction to Cuomo became public when she announced it on "The View," speaking to hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar. She emphasized her desire to express her feelings, stating, "Everyone was in love with Andrew Cuomo, myself included. I had a big crush on Andrew Cuomo." The revelation sparked interest and curiosity among viewers.
Despite Handler's openness about her feelings, Cuomo did not reciprocate. According to Handler, Cuomo contacted her three days after she made her feelings known, but there was no further development. As she humorously recounted on the show, "Guess who called me three days later? Yeah. The governor of New York." However, the conversation did not lead to a romantic relationship, and Handler confirmed there was "never" any penetration, as Cuomo had "ghosted" her.
"The View," known for its engaging discussions and celebrity interviews, airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC. Handler's comments provided a light-hearted moment amidst the more serious issues surrounding Cuomo's tenure as governor.
