Experts have dubbed it “Ozempic mouth,” and the results are shocking. This phenomenon has drawn the public’s attention. Public advocates such as Sharon Osbourne and Whoopi Goldberg have experienced the symptom of rapid rostro-caudal facial fat dystrophy, which is associated with taking the drug.
Ozempic—a prescription drug that has primarily been prescribed to help manage diabetes—has started making waves in Hollywood for aiding in weight loss. Dr. Green further elaborated that “Ozempic mouth” is a result of quick facial weight loss. This beneficial weight loss largely occurs when patients take larger doses of the GLP-1 medication. She noted, “Many users of Ozempic who I know report noticeable volume loss in the face, which can result in the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and jowls around the mouth.” Ozempic’s other harmful side effects extend well beyond this unusual condition. The most well-known side effect is being called “ozempic feet,” leading to skin laxity that creates a gaunt appearance on the tops of users’ feet.
And she’s not the only celebrity — other stars from Ellen Pompeo to Rebel Wilson are reportedly using Ozempic for weight loss and experiencing similar effects. Dr. Green highlighted the aesthetic implications of rapid weight loss, stating, “This volume loss can worsen the appearance of existing fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity contributing to a more aged smile and overall look.”
As these celebrities navigate their weight loss journeys, some are seeking solutions to counteract the adverse effects of the drug.
