Intercity bus travel is witnessing a significant surge in ridership as travelers increasingly seek alternatives to flying. Kai Boysan, CEO of Flix North America, noted a marked increase in passengers across FlixBus and Greyhound services. The ridership for these bus lines saw a double-digit percentage growth year-over-year in 2024, a trend that has continued into 2025. More detailed data will be available in April, providing further insight into this upward trajectory.
Boysan pointed out that the rise in bus travel is due to several factors, including reliability, affordability, and flexibility. He remarked on the shift towards buses, saying:

Many passengers are turning to buses due to concerns about flying, often sparked by news stories about plane crashes, turbulence, and other aviation incidents. Brian Morris, creator of "Flight Deck: Fear Of Flying Flash Cards," highlighted how these reports can trigger aerophobia. He commented:

Nonetheless, buses offer an attractive alternative for those looking for more control over their journey or who prefer to stay grounded. Boysan added that modern bus travel has evolved significantly from the past:
