A Celebration of Fitness and Philanthropy as Sue Green Retires

Sue Green, a popular fitness instructor at Kingswood Active Lifestyle Centre in South Gloucestershire, has recently hung up her legendary 37-year career. Her quiet but unwavering resolve inspired participants throughout her last session. Just 10 days before she turned 66, she pulled off an amazing event. It attracted close to 100 energetic participants, all ready to pay tribute and celebrate her commitment and love for health and fitness.

Since joining the Kingswood Active Lifestyle Centre in 1988, Green has become a fixture of community. Her last class was a colorful celebration. Green frequently wore a bright rainbow tutu and matching sweatbands, brightening the plain aesthetic of fitness with her signature colorful approach. For the past 30 years, she’s been leading enthusiastic, effective fitness classes. In the course of those journeys, she’s created an amazing culture of community between her students.

Green’s entry into the fitness revolution started almost four decades ago. During the 1980s, she embraced the era’s workout fashion, sporting headbands, leg warmers, and leotards that made her feel “like the bee’s knees.” Despite facing significant health challenges, including two knee and two hip replacements, Green remained committed to her passion for teaching.

Besides her professional fitness career, Green is perhaps most recognized for her work in philanthropy. For the past 12 years, she has volunteered at the Julian Trust Night Shelter, which has been providing shelter and support for individuals experiencing homelessness since 1987. The shelter provides more than just a place to sleep – it provides hot meals and a place to wash clothes. As a trust officer of the Julian Trust, Green has utilized her platform to fight for those most in need.

Proceeds from Green’s final class were given to the Julian Trust, a testament to Green’s lifelong dedication to charity. Her tireless advocacy has earned her a well-deserved reputation as a conscientious leader and progressive champion in the community. She’s shown that fitness and philanthropy can be an effective combination.

According to Green, she’s looking forward to this new chapter of her life. She wants to experience her complimentary free lifetime membership at the new pina pool! She was incredibly thankful for all the support she has had throughout the years. Today, she is excitedly anticipating all the time she will have to volunteer and focus on her other interests.
