Robert De Niro made a notable appearance on ABC’s The View this week, engaging in a lively discussion about his new crime drama The Alto Knights. Then, his segment went in a very different direction. The show’s producers bleeped his audio several times as he vehemently shared his displeasure with former President Donald Trump.
Throughout the episode, De Niro enthusiastically expressed his frustrations with Trump, but his sound was cut four different times. This resulted in a very polarized response from people at home and from the studio audience. When the sound cut back in permanently, patrons erupted with applause, showing their enthusiasm for what the actor had to say.
He stated, “It’s almost like he wants to do the worst that he could possibly do to show this country —” but his comments were again cut short for another two seconds. The producers intervened to censor his use of the swear word. They’ve actually done this previously on De Niro’s appearances due to his use of explicit language.
Beyond getting political, De Niro shared some background on his new film. In his winning dance, he and then girl/bestfriend/on-again-off-again girlfriend Tiffany Chen collaboration. So together, they made a pact to star their super cute fur babies, Lily and Antsy, in The Alto Knights. He humorously recounted a conversation with the dogs, saying, “If you do this, you better not fuck it up. Only speak when you’re spoken to.”
The film, directed by Barry Levinson, features a scene where De Niro’s character walks his dogs in Central Park, a moment that highlights the actor’s personal connection to the project.
