A groundbreaking event called Sperm Racing is set to take place on April 25 at the Hollywood Palladium, where sperm samples will compete head-to-head in a race designed to raise awareness about a significant health issue: declining male fertility. This bizarre contest was created by a coalition of young moguls and millionaires. Their goal is to help expose the ugly truth behind this horrible reality that for too long has been hidden in the shadows.
The race consists of two spermatozoa competing side by side on a custom-made 20-centimeter-long microscopic racetrack, specifically designed to mimic the female reproductive system. This track combines chemical signals and fluid dynamics. These factors combine to form an artistically daunting playground for sperm samples to traverse. Each spermatozoon is approximately 0.05 millimeters in length. The high-resolution cameras will capture them speeding down the course and fans will be able to catch all the action LIVE!
Eric Zhu is a young teen tech entrepreneur. He is one of the organizers responsible for Sperm Racing and is the co-creator of the private market analysis software company, Aviato. Declining sperm concentration among men across the globe was the urgent topic that Zhu wants to pose. Since 1973, it has dropped by more than 50% by 2018. It’s an astonishing drop. Sperm counts have dropped 60 percent from an average of 101 million sperm per milliliter of semen to just 49 million.
Zhu said, “It’s happening very quietly, very steadily, and nobody’s really having the conversation about it.” He hopes that by making this urgent health crisis fun and easy to track, it will drive even greater awareness. “Health is not a competition and no one should be left on the sidelines,” he continued.
Sperm Racing has raised more than $1 million in funding so far. To do this, they intend to capture the public’s imagination through an enjoyable, creative and cutting-edge experience. With a dynamic atmosphere including live commentary, big-screen leaderboards and replays, the event will be an exhilarating watch for fans. “There has never been a competition with lower — or higher! — stakes,” Zhu said, referencing the unprecedented aspect of the competition.
Two mutants jostle their way towards the nano-scale finishing line. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite sample and watch them compete in a high-speed head-to-head showdown! “Two rivals. Two samples. One microscopic finish line,” Zhu said, describing the spirit of the race.
Sperm Racing transforms a critical but arcane health topic into an exhilarating public spectacle. It’s designed to be both informative and fun. The organizers hope that this novel approach will lead to increased discussion and awareness regarding male fertility challenges that often go overlooked.
