Christiano Wennmann, formerly a pizzamaker at the popular Lower East Side restaurant Scarr’s, has made an impressive jump. His latest venture has brought him into the realm of high fashion. This year, he took his culinary creations beyond the kitchen to the runway at Paris Fashion Week. He wore proudly an example of Willy Chavarria’s Fall 2025 collection. Wennmann’s journey began when he discovered a passion for making pizza while working a dishwashing job at a Brooklyn pizzeria he found on Craigslist.
In a very lucky twist of fate, that Chavarria rep happened to find Wennmann on a flour-covered day at Scarr’s. Needless to say, he quickly became a fan favorite after that! His immense, undeniable charm and talent won everyone over. Before long, he was casting runway shows and booking campaigns and editorial shoots for fashion magazines such as Dazed and HERO. Following his proverbial breakout runway moment in the City of Light, Wennmann was soon signed with modeling agency powerplayer Elite Model Management. This brilliant move had the effect of making him an Instagram sensation.
That moment for Wennmann truly happened during an early photoshoot, the result of which is what first put him on the radar of industry insiders.
“While I was at that shoot, they were like, ‘I don’t know how we haven’t seen you before; you gotta come to Paris,’” – Christiano Wennmann
Only once he was given the chance to walk in Chavarria’s show did it hit him just how big this moment was going to be.
“I was like, ‘Oh s – – t! Okay, I’m down.’ The next thing you know, I’m booking a flight to France.” – Christiano Wennmann
At Paris Fashion Week, Wennmann not only walked the runway but experienced a performance by Latin superstar J Balvin, further solidifying the event’s excitement.
Chief to that support, he says, was Scarr Pimentel, owner of Scarr’s and one of the few Black pizzeria owners in America.
“I don’t think this would have happened if I was working in any other pizzeria except for Scarr’s,” – Christiano Wennmann
Despite newfound fame and accolades, Wennmann is still down to earth, focused on family and his roots. He’s still modeling part-time, but is now doing it more professionally, and has kept Scarr’s part-time job. His time at the pizzeria, though, has turned him into something of a local celebrity himself, with fans clamoring to take selfies with the well-spoken pup.
Wennmann is not just a star of the modeling world. He is front and center in the official “Scarr’s Pizza Cookbook,” which dropped last month. An interview with his other half, pizzamaker Josh Copetas, shows his creative duality as an international model and pizzamaker. This demonstrates his commitment to both crafts.
Whether he’s performing in a stadium or in a film, Wennmann is learning to chart this new course of his life with authenticity.
“I’m the same person I was before all of this happened. It’s very important for me to stay true to who I am. I don’t want to forget where I came from.” – Christiano Wennmann
When talking about his time on stage, they helped inspire him to pursue this mission, when reflecting on all he learned from Chavarria.
“You’re here for a reason and we wanted you in this show for a reason,” – Willy Chavarria
