Doug Kiker, a former contestant on the popular television show "American Idol," has passed away at the age of 32. The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office is currently investigating the cause and manner of his death. Kiker, who gained national attention during Season 18 of "American Idol" in 2019, was found unwell on a Denver street before being hospitalized. A good Samaritan, suspecting a possible drug overdose, called 911. Emergency medical services swiftly transported Kiker to Denver Health Medical Center, where he remained for five days until he died on Monday.
Kiker's journey on "American Idol" began when he auditioned for the show's 18th season. During his audition, he captivated the judges with his rendition of the Rascal Flatts hit "Bless the Broken Road." Luke Bryan accompanied him on the piano, while fellow judge Katy Perry was moved to tears by his heartfelt performance. Lionel Richie, along with Bryan and Perry, awarded Kiker a Golden Ticket, enthusiastically proclaiming, “You’re going to Hollywood.”
Despite making it to Hollywood Week, Kiker did not advance past that round. His last performance on the show was Marvin Gaye's "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough." Though his time on "American Idol" was brief, his performances left a lasting impression on viewers and judges alike.
According to sources cited by TMZ, drugs allegedly caused Kiker to suffer a heart attack. While the official cause of death has not been confirmed, the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization suggest a potential drug-related incident. His passing has left family and friends in mourning, including his ex-fiancée, Valerie Cook, who expressed her sadness over their children losing their father.
In the wake of Kiker's untimely death, a GoFundMe page set up by his family to help cover funeral expenses has exceeded its goal of $4,500. The outpouring of support from fans and well-wishers underscores the impact Kiker had on those who followed his journey.
