Danone has recalled more than 75,000 bottles of International Delight coffee creamer due to premature spoilage and a labeling issue. The recall, which began on February 21, was classified as a Class 2 risk level by the FDA. This action affects a total of 12,509 cases, each containing six bottles, with specific attention to the Hazelnut and Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll flavors labeled as "zero sugar."
The FDA warns that consuming the affected creamer "may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences." However, the possibility of serious health effects remains remote.
Spoilage and Health Risks
The spoilage of the coffee creamer led to a texture issue, prompting Danone to initiate the recall. Consuming the spoiled product could result in temporary health issues, though these are expected to be medically reversible. The FDA's classification at a Class 2 risk level indicates that while there may be adverse health effects, they are not likely to be severe.
The recall involves a significant number of bottles, totaling 75,054 across the United States. Customers who have purchased these products are advised to stop using them immediately.
Labeling Concerns
In addition to spoilage, a labeling error was identified in the recalled products. Though labeled as "zero sugar," the bottles contained sugar, posing a risk for individuals who need to limit or manage their sugar intake. This oversight further contributed to the FDA's decision to classify the recall at the second-highest risk level.
Consumers who have purchased the affected flavors are urged to return them to the point of purchase for a refund or replacement. This ensures that consumers who rely on accurate labeling for dietary reasons are not adversely affected.
