A New York City mom-fluencer, Victoria Maria Yavny, recently sparked a heated debate on TikTok after sharing a video about her challenging experience with her baby daughter on a flight. The incident unfolded when Yavny tried to coax her terrified daughter into using the airplane bathroom, only for the toddler to resist by holding her pee for five hours.
Yavny, who has amassed over 430,000 followers on TikTok, shared the encounter in a light-hearted video that quickly went viral, garnering 4.4 million views. In the video, Yavny is seen standing outside the bathroom, attempting to reassure her daughter by saying, "Mommy's here, we'll give it a try," only for the toddler to respond with a firm "no."
The video prompted a wave of reactions from TikTok users, many of whom were less than sympathetic. Some commenters criticized Yavny's suggestion to transform the bathroom into a playpen at 30,000 feet. One commenter noted, “Not only do we all have to deal with kids screaming on planes, but now parents want the entire structure revamped for them.”
Others pointed out practical solutions, suggesting that the light inside the bathroom might not have worked because Yavny failed to lock the door properly. “If you lock the door the light turns on,” another commenter explained.
The incident is not an isolated case of inflight parenting dilemmas gaining widespread attention. In December, another parent faced criticism after filming herself confronting a passenger for not giving up a window seat to her crying toddler. Both situations have ignited discussions about parenting and appropriate behavior on flights.
Yavny's video has triggered a broader conversation about the challenges of traveling with young children and the need for parents to be considerate of other passengers. Some commenters were blunt in their advice, suggesting, “How about travel without your kid! Or grand idea…drive or just don’t go!” Others highlighted the importance of teaching children not to fear toilets, with one stating, “lmao can we normalize teaching our kids to not be afraid of toilets.”
