A group of spirited campaigners will don elaborate costumes for the Cambridge Half Marathon, slated to start at 09:30 GMT on Sunday from Midsummer Common. The participants will line up dressed as a variety of vegetables, including a sunflower, carrot, cucumber, pea, and aubergine. Their mission is to raise funds for the charity Cultivating Change, which relies heavily on donations to support its initiatives.
Stewart Underwood, Therese Viljoen, Dan Ferrandino, Dan Nye, and Tom Knight will join thousands of other runners in the 13.1-mile (22.1km) race. Each runner has selected a unique vegetable costume that reflects their enthusiasm and commitment to the cause. Dan Ferrandino, who will be dressed as a cucumber, expressed his desire to make the race a challenge and contribute to a meaningful endeavor.
"What better way than to combine vegetables with running, to look silly and hopefully raise a huge amount of money," Ferrandino remarked.
Mr. Nye will take on the persona of a pea, and he is particularly enthusiastic about participating in the race. Meanwhile, Ms. Viljoen has voiced her excitement about running for such a worthy cause. Mr. Underwood is equally eager to get started, highlighting the collective energy of the group as they prepare to embark on this unique journey.
Tom Knight initially considered dressing as a broccoli but eventually decided on an aubergine. Knight emphasized the importance of raising sponsorship funds through their whimsical approach.
"They are reliant on donations so being able to get as much sponsorship as possible is super important and what better way than to combine vegetables with running, to look silly and hopefully raise a huge amount of money," stated Knight.
The Cambridge Half Marathon promises to be an event filled with fun and enjoyment for these dedicated runners. Their vegetable-themed participation not only aims to garner attention but also to encourage generous contributions to Cultivating Change. This charity run exemplifies how creativity and purpose can merge to support meaningful causes.
