A tragic incident unfolded in Newark as a 14-year-old gunman allegedly fired 29 shots at police officers, resulting in the death of one officer and leaving another critically injured. The shooting occurred near a White Castle and McDonald's at approximately 6:30 p.m., where the suspect was reportedly seen with a large group prior to the altercation. In the aftermath, multiple individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
Both officers were struck during the volley of bullets and were subsequently transported to University Hospital for treatment. The condition of the injured officer remains critical as they fight for their life. Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the status of the teenage suspect. According to PIX 11 sources, the teen was killed, while ABC 7 reported that the suspect was taken into custody.
The New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) expressed sorrow over the incident, acknowledging the bravery of the officers involved.
