From Fighter to Founder: Victoria Skinner’s Inspiring Journey

Victoria Skinner, affectionately known as Tor, is a 38-year-old resident of Northampton whose life story is one of resilience and determination. Diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2015, Tor fought valiantly until she was declared cancer-free. However, in 2021, she faced another daunting challenge when doctors informed her that she had incurable secondary cancer, with an estimated three years left to live. Undeterred by the prognosis, Tor embarked on a transformative journey that began with exercise in 2022, spurred on by her husband’s encouragement.

Before embracing fitness, Tor struggled to lift even the lightest weights. Her perseverance led her to complete her first Hyrox fitness competition in November 2023—a grueling event combining running with intense workouts like sled pulls, pushes, and burpee jumps. Since then, she has participated in two additional Hyrox competitions, crediting exercise for its profound impact on her physical and mental well-being.

"For me, movement is medicine; it's about staying active, going for a walk, lifting a weight."

The challenges Tor faced inspired her to establish The Tor-Rox Foundation—a lasting legacy for her five-year-old daughter, Isla Rose. Officially recognized by the Charity Commission after a year's worth of paperwork, the foundation aims to support those affected by cancer. The charity was years in the planning and represents a significant achievement for Tor as she channels her strength into giving back.

"I wanted to give something back when I got my strength back."

Despite being exhausted from years of treatment and juggling responsibilities as a mother and business owner, Tor found new purpose through the foundation and fitness.

"I was just exhausted all the time after years of treatment, running an events business and being a mum; it's keeping me busy and life is for living."

Her unwavering spirit is evident in the pride she feels for her accomplishments and her commitment to leaving a meaningful mark for her daughter and other cancer warriors.

"It feels amazing, I feel really proud to have set it up and leave a legacy for my daughter Isla Rose, and all cancer warriors."
