Michelle Trachtenberg, a beloved actress known for her roles in "Gossip Girl" and "Harriet the Spy," has passed away at the age of 39. Police found her unconscious and unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment, located in the Central Park South neighborhood. The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that emergency medical services (EMS) workers pronounced her dead on the scene.
Trachtenberg's career began with her film debut in 1996, where she played the titular role in "Harriet the Spy." She quickly became a household name, especially among younger audiences, through her performances in popular children's movies and TV shows. Among her notable roles, she portrayed Dawn Summers for three years in the acclaimed series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and she captivated audiences as Georgina Sparks in "Gossip Girl" for six seasons.
In recent years, Trachtenberg faced personal and health challenges. In 2021, she made headlines with allegations against Joss Whedon, creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," through a cryptic Instagram post. She claimed to have had a rule that prohibited Whedon from being alone with her on set, sparking discussions across the entertainment industry.
Her health had also been a source of concern as she underwent a liver transplant within the last year. Sources indicate that complications may have arisen from her body's potential rejection of the transplanted liver, leading to her passing from natural causes.
