Braga Fresh Foods has initiated a voluntary recall of 35,508 bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets due to a potential Listeria contamination. The recall, affecting products sold at Walmart locations across 20 states, was triggered following tests conducted by Texas Health & Human Services. On December 27, 2024, the company took action after one sample tested positive for Listeria, prompting concerns over consumer safety.
The affected product comes in 12-ounce bags bearing the UPC 6 81131 32884 5 and lot code BFFG327A6. The broccoli is marked with a best-if-used-by date of December 10, 2024. Although the recalled broccoli is no longer available on store shelves, the FDA remains concerned about the possibility of these bags still being stored in consumers' freezers.
The recall has been classified as a Class 1 by the FDA as of January 27. This classification underscores a "reasonable probability" that consuming the affected broccoli could lead to serious health consequences or even death. The potentially deadly nature of the recall highlights the urgency with which consumers should check their freezers for the recalled product.
The recalled broccoli was distributed to Walmart stores in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Customers in these states are urged to verify any Marketside Broccoli Florets they may have purchased against the recalled lot details.
Braga Fresh Foods emphasizes their commitment to consumer safety and urges anyone in possession of the recalled product to dispose of it immediately. Consumers seeking further information or guidance are encouraged to contact Braga Fresh Foods directly for assistance.
