Chappell Roan: From Midwest Princess to Grammy Winner

Chappell Roan has emerged as the brightest star in the music industry, clinching the Grammy for best new artist in 2024. The accolade crowns a year of remarkable achievements for the artist, who was the opener for Olivia Rodrigo's "Guts" tour and drew record-breaking crowds at Lollapalooza. Despite losing out to Carpenter in the categories of best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album, Roan remains in contention for three other prestigious Grammys, including album of the year, song of the year, and record of the year.

Roan's journey to stardom has been nothing short of extraordinary. Her album "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess," released in 2023, solidified her status as a pop sensation. Featuring hit tracks like "Good Luck, Babe!" and "Pink Pony Club," the album resonated with audiences and critics alike. Her unique style, which taps into drag culture and reflects her openly queer identity, has made her a sassy toast of the pop world in 2024.

Although Roan's path to success has been laden with obstacles, she remains undeterred. After being dropped by her previous record label in 2020, Roan expressed her frustration with the industry.

"It was devastating to feel so committed to my art and feel so betrayed by the system and dehumanized" – Chappell Roan

Despite these setbacks, she persevered and began her music career in 2015 when she signed with Atlantic Records. Her tenacity paid off when she won the best new artist award at the 2024 MTV VMAs, beating out contenders such as Shaboozey, Gracie Abrams, Tyla, and Teddy Swims.

Roan's album "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess" also includes tracks like "Red Wine Supernova" and "Hot to Go!" which further showcase her musical prowess. Her Grammy win for best new artist saw her surpass notable performers like Carpenter, Benson Boone, Doechii, Khruangbin, Raye, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims.
