First-Class Drinks, Economy Tricks: The In-Flight Beverage Scam

Two women recently caused a stir on a flight from Rhode Island to Atlanta by employing an audacious trick to score complimentary first-class alcoholic beverages. The pair boarded the plane, initially settling into seats in the first row, which were not assigned to them. Their goal was simple yet deceptive: to enjoy the perks of first-class service without paying the premium price.

After receiving their pre-flight drinks, the women concocted an excuse to leave their seats, claiming they were going to greet a sister seated further back in the plane. They then relocated to their actual seats in the second row, drinks in hand. This maneuver allowed them to evade detection by the flight attendant, who remained unaware of their ploy.

“The people sat down, received their pre-flight booze and then said I’m just going to go say hi to my sister in the back of the plane and walked off with the free drink to obviously not return.”

However, this ruse did not go entirely unnoticed. A Redditor on the flight observed the situation unfold and later shared their disbelief online. According to the post, one of the women's seats was actually assigned to another passenger, who promptly informed her of the mix-up. This revelation sparked a heated debate on Reddit, with opinions divided over the ethics of the women's actions.

“People pay for the drinks with their ticket price. Upgrades go to those who travel frequently and spend money on travel. The bag thing kills me too. An a-hole does it now everyone does. Keep your stuff with you and stop trying to scam.”

Some commentators labeled the act as "theft of services," while others argued that the women should have been removed from the flight altogether. Comparisons were drawn between their actions and "dine and dash," a term used for leaving a restaurant without paying for a meal.

“I’m assuming the ultimate goal is to get the drink and move out before they are sussed out,”

This incident marked a first for the flight attendant, who expressed surprise at such a scheme being executed on his watch. The Redditor who witnessed it also noted that they had never encountered such behavior before.
